REGIMENTAL SERGEANT-MAJORS

OF THE

ROYAL REGIMENT of AUSTRALIAN ARTILLERY

         
Warrant Officer Class One Peter Prewett, CSC, OAM
         
Peter Prewett transferred from the Citizens Military Forces to join the Australian Regular Army on the 12th March 1962, aged 17.

He served in the Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery and had a number of non-corps postings throughout his career.

   
As a non-commissioned officer he served in:
   
* A Field Battery,
   
* 101st Field Battery,
   
* 102nd Field Battery, and
   
* 103rd Medium Battery.
 
During this period he saw active service in Malaya, Borneo and South Vietnam
   
As a Warrant Officer Class Two Peter Prewitt served as an Assistant Instructor-in-Gunnery (AIG) with:
   
* 16th Field Battery,
   
* The School of Artillery, and
   
* The Royal School of Artillery in England (during this posting he saw service with the Royal Artillry in Germany and Canada).
   
His other Gunnery postings were:
   
* Battery Sergeant-Major - A Field Battery
   
* Regimental Sergeant-Major:
   
  * 7th Field Regiment, and
     
  * 4th Field Regiment.
   

Peter Prewett also served as the Brigade RSM, 6th Brigade, and the Divisional RSM, 1st Division. He was the first Artillery warrant officer to take-up postings as a brigade RSM and as a divisional RSM.

He was then posted as the Master Gunner - Field Force/Land Command Artillery. Following this he was posted as the Regimental Sergeant-Major of the Army (again, the first Gunner to hold this office).

Following his posting as the RSM of the Army he was appointed to the field rank of major, and was responsible for assisting in the centralization, conduct and control of 'All Corps Subject One’ training of the Army’s warrant officers and senior non-commissioned officers (operations, leadership, training and administration).

His final posting was as the Operations Officer of School Cadets for South East Queensland and he retired from the Army in January 2000.

* Senior Officers'Media Awareness Course.
   
During his service Peter Prewitt recieved the following Awards:
   
* Conspicuous Service Cross (for services as the RSM 1st Division and as the RSM of the Army),
   
* Medal of the Order of Australia (for services as the Master Gunner - Land Command),
   
* Australian Active Service Medal 1945 - 1975,
   
* General Service Medal 1962,
   
* Vietnam Medal,
   
* Australian Service Medal,
   
* Defence Force Service Medal,
   
* National Medal,
   
* Australian Defence Medal,
   
* Vietnamese Campaign Medal, and
